James Weldon Stewart - Class Of 1945

James Weldon Stewart, 90, passed away in his residence on Monday, June 5, 2017.

James was born on July 8, 1926 to William and Iva Stewart and raised in Harnett County, NC.  He was married in 1945 and spent the next sixty-six years of his life as a devoted husband to his wife, Joyce Painter Stewart, a loving father to his two children, Darlene and Jimmy, a cherished grandparent to Miranda, Trey, Stacey and two great-grandchildren, Brett and Gabriel.

James and wife, Joyce, established Fayetteville Oil Company and Service Center in 1958.  They ran the business successfully together until Joyce’s death in 2011. James was a member of the Creasy Proctor Masonic Lodge; Past Worthy Patron of Spring Lake Chapter No. 333 of the Order of Eastern Star; member of Cape Fear Shrine No. 8, and York Rite.  He was also a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

James thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family, hosting fish fries and tending to the spectacular landscape around his home on Longview Drive.  He will be forever remembered by family, friends, employees and customers as a selfless, loving soul who always had a smile and kind word.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8, 2017, at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Adcock Funeral Home with Pastor Stuart Green officiating.  Interment with masonic rites followed immediately in LaFayette Memorial Park

A visitation for family and friends was held Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

James is survived by his son, Jimmy Stewart and wife, Lisa; daughter, Darlene Cassanova and husband, Tommy; two sisters, Grace Coleman and Lenora Gregory; brother, Hilton Stewart and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
