Dorothy Elizabeth Shaw Burgess, 89,of Fayetteville, NC, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016, in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

She was born March 28, 1927 in Manchester, NC. She retired as an Assistant Vice President of First Citizens Bank & Trust Company on Fort Bragg, NC.

Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by her beloved husband of sixty years, Harless Linwood Burgess; her parents, William A. Shaw and Esther Truelove Shaw; two sisters, Lorene S. Rowe and Geraldine S. Williams; three brothers, William A. Shaw, Jr., John Neal Shaw and Terrell B. Shaw; two sisters-in-law, Margaret H. Shaw and Virginia A. Shaw; and one brother-in-law, J. Scott Williams.

Surviving are her children: Barbara L. Burgess, Ronald D. Burgess, Terry L. Burgess and wife, Tina, and Debra A. Burgess; sisters-in-law, Gaynelle Shaw and Iris Burgess; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews, and her grand pups.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 19, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Flat Branch Presbyterian Church, Bunnlevel, NC with Dr. Mike Armistead officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A visitation for family and friends was held Friday, November 18, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Adcock Funeral Home in Spring Lake.
