Martha Shaw (Butts) - Class Of 1942

Mrs. Martha Butts, 91, of Spring Lake passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Harnett Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Dunn. A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Neil Duncan and Martha McDonald Shaw. Mrs. Butts was preceded in death by her husband, Hal Butts; her brother, Norman Shaw; and her sister, Annie Shaw.

Mrs. Butts was a 1942 graduate of Anderson Creek High School. After graduation, she worked on the family farm and at Verne’s Cleaners. Following her marriage in 1957, she focused on life as wife and mother.

She assisted neighbors and treated them as if they were her own family.

She served as Presbyterian Women of the Church moderator in two churches, three-year-old Sunday School Class teacher, Girl Scout leader, and school volunteer. Funeral service were conducted 11:00 am Saturday at O’Quinn-Peebles-Phillips Chapel in Lillington with Rev. Thomas K. Spence and Rev. Earl M. Vaughan officiating. Burial was in the Flat Branch Covenant Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family received friends from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service, other times at her home.

She is survived by her daughter, Ann Butts of Spring Lake.
