Anderson Creek Class of 1964 Celebrates 50 Years Since Graduation

The graduating class of 1964 held their 50 year class reunion on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Anderson Creek Club, Patriot Hall. The class consisted of 23 graduates in 1964.  38 class members and guests attended the reunion.  Tommy West, class president, welcomed the group and Tommy Shaw gave the invocation and led in a time of remembrance for classmates who have passed away.  Those remembered were:      Mike Cockman, Clayton Parker, Patsy Gilbert Rowe, Jerry Glover, James Roland McLamb, Bobby Stone and Pansy Gilbert Jones. A vase of 7 red and pink roses was placed on the remembrance table along with a memorial candle.

A dinner buffet was catered by the Club House Pub and Grill/BJ’s Restaurant and consisted of: Chicken pastry, Beef Pot Roast w/carrots and new potatoes, stewed apples, tossed salad, rolls, banana pudding and peach cobbler.  The food was excellent!

During the evening our special guests, former faculty members were recognized and spoke to the group.  Among those attending were:  Principal Donald L. Johnson and his wife Mildred who reside in Rocky Mount, NC.  Mr. Johnson was principal from 1961-1963.  Mr. James Watkins and his wife Lynda who reside in Anderson Creek.  Mr. Watkins was the agriculture teacher during the time the Class of ’64 was in high school. He would later become principal of Anderson Creek School.  Mr. D. G. Gomedella and his wife Louise who reside in Erwin, NC were in attendance. Mr. Gomedella taught social studies and P. E.  He was also the coach of several sports including basketball during this time.  Mr. Weldon Robinson, who was principal during the 1963-64 school year, and his wife Bonnie who reside in Saint Pauls, NC were unable to attend, but sent their warmest greetings and well wishes to the Class of 1964. 

Class members introduced themselves and their guests and told a little about their lives over the years.  Martin Gregory and his wife Deborah came the longest distance to the reunion….all the way from Bendena, Kansas.  Janie Parker Golden and her guest, Philip Spano came from Eagleville, Pennsylvania.  Other class members attending were:  Donald Spence and wife Brenda from Charlotte, NC; Jeanette Mason Tart and guest Carol Goforth from Henderson, NC; Doris Reaves Williams, from Coats, NC; Ruth Ann Salmon Thomas and husband Bob, Carl McDonald, Jr., Rosie Perrin Taylor, Tommy West, Elmond Ray and wife Judy, Ray Mason and wife Carolyn, all from Spring Lake, NC; Faye McLean and guest, Allen Feinberg from Pittsboro, NC; Tony Pat McMillian from Cameron, NC; Brenda Gilchrist, Dorothy Matthews Matthews Holder and husband Edgar from Lillington, NC; Kenneth Earl Moore and wife Carol from Linden, NC; Jerry Godfrey and wife Bonnie from Angier, NC; Tommy Shaw and wife Marianna from Bunnlevel, NC; and DJ, James Thomas and guest Sandra Watts from Sanford, NC.

Many fond memories were relived and old friendships re-established.  Many had not seen each other in the 50 years since graduation.  Pictures of school days and the 1964 Ancrenoca were on display and provided lots of moments of reminiscing.  The evening ended in fellowship and dancing to 60’s music.  A great night of fun, fellowship and renewal was enjoyed by all and will be long remembered by the Anderson Creek High School, Class of 1964.
